Ready For Summer

I am loving the hint of summer that we are having today! Warm enough for me to wear a cute outfit. When I go out later to the park I will throw a denim jacket on. I am wearing an outfit that I got the last time that I went to my favorite consignment shop. $1.00 for the top and $1.00 for the cropped pants. The Cute White Sandals I actually got off of ebay. They were about $10.00, But, I had gotten some money put in my paypal account for a review I had done. So they were pretty much free!

Homemade Yoga Skirt

I love yoga skirts and cannot get enough of them. I had this short "dress" that I had wrote about a while ago of me wearing it with leggings. Well, I was grabbing it out of the dryer yesterday and when I was holding it up to fold it , I noticed that IF I was to cut it under the armpits , it would be a perfect length yoga skirt. So , I got out the scissors, and cut it across just under the armpits. Now I have a perfect yoga skirt that has a cute print to it.

No need to do any sewing or anything. Just cut it across. Let it bunch down on its own.

I really like the skirt a lot better than when it was a long "dress" top. More comfortable and I can wear it with a lot more things.

Yoga Skirts - Comfy Style

Not sure why, but lately , I have become obsessed with yoga skirts. They are so comfortable. I already had one black one that I wear all of the time. I went to a thrift store the other day and found 3 more - I used my $10.00 bonus card so all 3 of them cost me about $2.00! I found a Free Sewing Pattern so that I can make some more whenever I find some t-shirt knit fabric. I have some dark purple that I plan on using now. These will be great for this summer when it gets hot!

(disclaimer - I have never or plan on ever doing yoga!)

Get Warm!

It is very cold here now. Single digits. So if you are cold check out the thrift stores and flea markets for some very cool vintage coats. Some really cool ones that are very stylish and low cost. Loving the 1940's style ones that I have seen. Most of them are wool and very warm!!! Will last forever if you take care of them and keep the moths off of them.

Giving Up On My Hair? Maybe , Maybe Not!

I am old enough and I like to think secure enough to realize when something is not working and not going right. My hair has given me problems for a few years now. I have been sick and it has gotten my hormones all messed up so my hair just will not grow. I am tired of it so I am giving up the worry I am putting into it and I ordered one of these neat ( and low cost) Clip On Ponytails.I ordered one of them last week and haven't gotten it yet, but I want to order another one that is kind of shorter and curlier. An easy way to have some style while I wait on my hair to decide to grow. Cost a lot less than going to hair stylist or doctor every week.

Leggings!

I have a few pair of leggings in different colors and even denim ones. I am so happy when I find something to wear with them because they are so comfortable. I found this on $1.00 rack at consignment shop. I think it has an 1980's look to it. Looks awesome with leggings. A pair of black boots finishes off the look.

Purses?

Look around you when you are thrifting. There might be some crazy things that are meant for one thing ,but could be used for something else. Like, baskets for purses. Camera cases and thermos cases are a great way to get a vintage style purse. When I was a teen, hmmm a long time ago, I had taken an Army "butt" pack and put a shoulder strap on it. It was my favorite purse. Not sure what happened to it. Moved too many times. I would still be using it, if I had it.

Look around and be creative!

Vintage Sewing Patterns

The best way to get sewing patterns is at thrift stores, yard sales, and flea markets. They are usually VERY cheap. Most of the time they arr vintage and already cut, but if you get a pattern that you will use a lot , it is a good thing it is already cut. Especially if it is your size that you need. That is the part that I hate about sewing - cutting out the pattern! You can even find fabric for low cost. Even Walmart usually has marked down fabric for sometimes $1.00 a yard!

If you don't know how to sew - LEARN! You can save a lot of money this way. I taught myself how to sew just so that I could make the cloth diapers that my son wore. I even made some money selling some online. Got us thru my husband lay-off.

You can find a lot of FREE sewing patterns online - I have a lot of my favorite free sewing patterns listed on my Sewing Ideas Pinterest Board.

Take Care

excuse the mess, a puggle helped me make the bed!

When you have very little room and hardly any closet space, but have a large amount of clothing, you have to find ways to hang them and take care of them. I found this clothes hanger at the dollar store for $10.00! It holds a lot of clothes and they hang perfect so they are wrinkle free. Just because your clothing came from a thrift store, doesn't mean that you can't take care of it. This has helped me a lot to have this.

I am planning on getting a couple more. My wardrobe will be growing , won't it??

Party In Sparkles!

It is so crazy what you can find for $1.00 at some stores. I found this sparkly , vintage dress at one such store that had all of their clothing on sale for $1.00 each. This dress is pretty sheer , but I am going to wear it with black leggings and a black camisole. Black heels will finish it off and some silver earrings. Small ones. I want to focus to be on the sparkles in the dress.

Frugal party dress! More money to spend on gifts!

Pretty Stripes

I finally found some items that I can wear with my olive green pants that I had gotten at a yard sale last summer for 25 cents. This top is what I will wear with them today. Another find from the $1.00 sale! Needless to say I am going back to that small thrift store next week!! Find some more treasures. I had lost a lot of my clothing when a storage unit we had had been flooded and no one told us. So anything in the unit that was fabric or wood was lost!! I have been rebuilding my wardrobe the last couple of years. Having to be super frugal while I do it.

Vintage Silk Tops Look Great

I love silk tops. Feels so great and looks so good. I found this top at a small thrift store where all of the clothing was $1.00 each! I love this top. Has a cute pattern on it and fits perfect. With the free jeans that I have with a dark wash and the boots that were $3.95 - this is a super frugal outfit. Less than $5.00 for the outfit. Perfect.

Vintage Hats! Add Some Unique Style!

Flea Markets and thrift stores are great for getting stylish vintage clothing and watch out for the hats. You can find some pretty amazing vintage hats at them. And for not a lot of money. These 2 hats , that unfortunately were too small for me, were only about 10 to 15 dollars each. Not a lot of money to add so much style to your winter wardrobe.
With vintage hats you just have to look at them well. Make sure they are in good shape and have no moth holes, etc.  If they have anything on them, like jewels, feathers, ribbons, make sure they are attached well.

Shop Smart To Save Money & Make Money

One of the best ways that I have found to save money while shopping for unique clothing and home items is to shop in consignment shops. A lot of towns have a small one. You can find a lot of great items and a lot of higher end items at consignment shops. I have found many designer handbags at consignment shops for a 10th of what they would be new.

A consignment shop is also a great place to make money. You can take your items there to have them sold and get some extra money to then be able to buy "new" items. They will price the items and do all of the other work for you. All you have to do is bring in the stuff and then pick up your money! This is an awesome way to make money with clothing and toys that your children have outgrown. Take the money you make to buy them new clothing. Win-Win!!

You can use this link http://consignmentshops.com/ to find out where consignment shops, thrifty stores, and more are in your area. An awesome tool to have on hand. Secondhand Chic: Finding Fabulous Fashion at Consignment, Vintage, and Thrift Shops

Is Your Handbag Making You Look Fat?

Is your designer handbag making you look fat? Much thought is given to the perfect pair of jeans or finding just the right blouse that will accentuate your figure. But how about your handbag?

Yes, your handbag can make you look fat or short or maybe even both. But the good news is, choosing the right handbag can make you look thin and tall.

It's all about shape. You need to choose a handbag that is opposite that of your figure. If you were short and round, the perfect bag for you would be tall and sleek, like a clutch. Say you are tall and thin. Then a short and round bag would suit you best.

Now it is important you keep ratios in mind. Just because you are stout doesn't mean you should carry around a pencil box, this will only add to the appearance that you are much larger then your handbag.
And don't forget, fabrics and accents add a lot to the structure of a bag. A brightly colored, wildly patterned Monogram Multicolor Louis Vuitton Boulogne attracts a lot of attention. This bag will give the appearance that there is a lot my substance to your accessory then there really is.

Next, you will want to consider size of the bag. Take for example the Monogram Louis Vuitton Boulogne mentioned earlier. The bag itself has a small, classic, square shape to it, but it also has a long 12-inch strap. On a woman who is five and a half feet tall, this bag would be at or below her hip. This is too long for her height and therefore makes her look shorter. Now give the same bag to a 6-foot tall woman, and the bag would sit comfortably just above her hip and accentuate her waistline. The goal is to show off your womanly curves while hiding the womanly flaws we all have and hate.

Some popular designer handbag styles:

Tote - An open-top bag with straps or handles.

Hobo bag - A crescent-shaped shoulder bag.

Duffle - Tall shoulder bag, often with a wider opening on top.

Field bag - A flap-top shoulder bag with utility-type closure (buckles, snaps, etc).

Clutch - A small, handheld bag (frequently used for evening wear).

Satchel- A large, handheld bag.

Baguette - Long and rounded shoulder bag resembling the namesake bread.

Messenger - A large, soft shoulder bag with long straps (often worn across the body).

Cigar Box - A small, boxy, hard bag.

Pouch - A soft, small bag.

Oh, and a message to all of you who think you are avoiding bad handbag choices and have chosen a backpack style handbag. Watch out how big the backpack is and where it rests on your back. You could be adding junk to your 'trunk', or accentuating your 'assets'.

Front or back, choosing the right bag is as important as choosing the right pair of jeans or the perfect sweater.
