Yoga Skirts - Comfy Style

Not sure why, but lately , I have become obsessed with yoga skirts. They are so comfortable. I already had one black one that I wear all of the time. I went to a thrift store the other day and found 3 more - I used my $10.00 bonus card so all 3 of them cost me about $2.00! I found a Free Sewing Pattern so that I can make some more whenever I find some t-shirt knit fabric. I have some dark purple that I plan on using now. These will be great for this summer when it gets hot!

DIY Legwarmers & Hat

Do you have a sweater that you love , but just don't wear anymore? Either too small or whatever. Take it and make some quick legwarmers. No-Sew! Really easy and then if you sew , take it and use another stocking cap as a pattern to make a matching cap. Keep warm and not cost any money!!

                     Lay the sweater out flat and cut the arms off straight across from the armpit.

                                                           Wear them to keep warm!

Take another stocking cap and lay it on the sweater towards the bottom to make your self a cap. This one I left a lot of the bottom so that I could fold it up.

                    Easy winter items and they cost me nothing , but about 10 minutes of time!!

Flannel Sheet To Pajama Pants DIY

What do you do when your Puggle chews a hole in one of your most warm and favorite flannel sheets? You make warm and comfortable pajama pants out of it!! Great way to save some money. You can get a couple of pair out of the full sheets.

It is super easy to do.

Take the clean flannel sheet and lay it out. I always use the edge as the bottom of the pants so that I do not have to hem. Makes these even quicker to make.

Take your favorite pair of pajama pants that you already have and lay them down on the part that you already have folded in half. Those are your pattern. Cut two out. Do it to where the sewing down the pants leg is on the inside.

 Sew both "legs" and then put one leg, turned right side out, inside the other one - sew down the middle (crotch) .

 Pull the leg out of the other one and turn down about an inch at the top for the waistband. Sew around and leave an open place for the elastic to go in. Sew it all together and finish off the opening.

YOU NOW HAVE A PAIR OF WARM AND COMFY PAJAMA PANTS!

Vintage Sewing Patterns

The best way to get sewing patterns is at thrift stores, yard sales, and flea markets. They are usually VERY cheap. Most of the time they arr vintage and already cut, but if you get a pattern that you will use a lot , it is a good thing it is already cut. Especially if it is your size that you need. That is the part that I hate about sewing - cutting out the pattern! You can even find fabric for low cost. Even Walmart usually has marked down fabric for sometimes $1.00 a yard!

If you don't know how to sew - LEARN! You can save a lot of money this way. I taught myself how to sew just so that I could make the cloth diapers that my son wore. I even made some money selling some online. Got us thru my husband lay-off.

How to Create Custom Jeans in Military Style and Original Jeans Turned Inside Out

To design custom jeans in military style you'll need a piece of camouflage material, a needle and thread, buttons, scissors as well as a sartorial chalk. Turn your jeans into Capri trousers by cutting them a bit lower the knee line. Cut two square pieces from camouflage material, with a length of the trouser bottom and a width of about 10 centimeters each.

Sew the cuffs down to the bottoms of trouser legs, whip the side seam and stitch the seams on the sewing machine. Turn the cloth to the front side, carefully spread the cuffs, iron the side cuts into different directions. Turn the upper cut of cloth inside onto 5 millimeters, tack it to the trouser legs of your jeans and stitch the seams.

Sew down the buttons sideways near the outside seam of the trouser legs. Cut out two pockets from camouflage material of the same size which jeans' pockets have.

Turn over the cuts of one of the workpieces 5 millimeters and sew them down to the back pocket of jeans so that the factory stitching of pockets stays visible. Sew the second workpiece using the same technique, however, place it a bit outside of the pocket.

You can also make another patch flap pocket on one side on the thigh. Sew down buttons to the pocket and make cut loops in the flap. That's it!

To create extravagant "inside out" subculture jeans you'll need denim cloth, metallic buttons, thread, a needle and scissors.

Mark out a cut line on both trouser legs. The cut lines should have different levels, for example, one can be marked out up the knee height, the other one a bit lower. Cut off both trouser legs on the marked line using sharp scissors. Turn the cut off parts of trouser legs inside out.

Tack the outstanding inner seams so that they fit to the cloth and the stitching that will come to the front in the ready-made customized jeans model looks neat.

Sew down the finished trouser leg to the place where it was cut off so that unfinished cuts come on the outside, on the front part. Fray the cuts by taking out the threads with your fingers or using a gypsy needle.

Cut out of denim cloth of contrast color eight square worlpieces for onlays about 5 centimeters in width each. Our onlays will have different length, the longest one will be exactly the trouser leg's width, and each other will be 2 centimeters shorter than the previous one. Two last onlays should have equal length.

Turn over the cuts of each workpiece 0,5 centimeters and tack the edges. Stitch each workpiece using the thread of contrast color and on one of the ends make a cut loop using a sewing machine.
Tack and then stitch the onlays except for the shortest one to the jeans on various height parallel to the bottom of the jeans trousers. Sew down metallic buttons to decorative cut loops.

Onlays of different length can be equally placed on trouser legs of your custom tailored jeans. Cut out or pierce holes on back pockets using sharp scissors. Place them so that they would look as symmetrical as possible on both back pockets.

You can create a balanced impression of a complete jeans model by decorating one of the back pockets with a fake onlay.

Complete the pocket's decoration by sewing down a metallic button. Decorate the second back pocket using the same technique. That's it! Your originally built customized jeans are ready.

Fabulous Tunics!

Tunics are so comfortable to wear. They are also so stylish. You have to have a few of them in different prints etc. They look so great with a pair of skinny jeans. Pretty much all I wear now that it is cooler.

This tunic in the photo , I made! Found this awesome fabric at a yard sale for 25 cents and got home and there was over 2 yards. I knew right away I would use it for this Simplicity 4180 Misses' Pullover Bias Tunics or Tops, Size K5 (8,10,12,14,16) sewing pattern.I did not sew in the camisole piece into the neckline , because I have a pink top that I can wear under this and it looks perfect.

Reinvent Your Boring Sweatshirt

Here is an easy way to update your sweatshirt. Take your boring zip-up hoodie and make it new.

Get out your zip-up hoodie and take different colored strips of other sweatshirt fabric, from thrift store finds. Kids sweatshirts are perfect for getting the fabric for this project, just enough fabric and most thrift stores have kids clothing for about 99 cents each piece!

Measure the front diagonally to from the shoulder to the zipper, then from the zipper on the other side to the side seam. Cut out the fabric that you want to make the stripes with. Pin them down real well on the front and then start sewing by hand around. You can use a contrasting color thread to make it look even more interesting. That is it!! A new sweatshirt!!

Generation T

When you go to thrift stores or yard sales look out for books (and other stuff), too! Some of the best books that I have come from them.

This is an awesome book that I found recently, Generation T. It is full of different ways to create new items of clothing or decor items out of t-shirts. I love this book. Everyone should have a copy of this.

There is even a wedding dress in this book. Very cute!

Sewing - A Tee For Me!

I actually got out the sewing machine and got myself a tee sewn. I had bought the fabric to make a kimono top, but I thought better of it. This fabric is too lacy and stretchy. Better for a tee. I am going to have to wear a white camisole under this or a white turtleneck for winter. Maybe. I will see how it looks. I also have enough left over to make something else if I want. This Breezy Tee sewing pattern was free. It was easy to put together and once I got it pinned the sewing only took a few minutes. I already have a stack of fabric put to the side just for making more of these. I get all of my fabric from thrift stores and yard sales, so that makes it very frugal. All of my sewing patterns come from them also. I have bought only a couple of new sewing patterns. I get mine for next to nothing or you can look thru my BOARDS on Pinterest for A LOT of FREE sewing patterns and tutorials.You can also find a lot of low cost sewing patterns HERE!!

               If you can sew, you should make up some of these tops. They are so easy to make.

Re-use Child's Favorite T-shirt

I have been saving my Little Man's favorite t-shirts that he has outgrown. I did want to make a quilt out of them. But, decided to make pillows! I made 1 so far out of a favorite Pokemon shirt. I need to add more stuffing. On the to buy list for shopping trip this weekend.

These pillows are very easy to make. I just cut across the top so that I only have the 2 seams to sew. Stuff them and your done. Quick and easy do it yourself. These could easily be a unique gift idea for birthdays or Christmas!

Deja Vu

Looking through the racks at the thrift store and see this top that really makes me think of the one that I had sewn a while ago. Great looking top! So , if you can't sew , you will find great tops while shopping at thrift stores!

I love making things out of t-shirts because you can find them for so cheap. The fabric is sturdy and usually does not need to be hemmed. You can cut it any way you want to and it will not fray.

Right now I am saving fabric from t-shirts to make a braided rug.  When my Little Man was a baby I used t-shirts to make cloth diapers and baby wipes. I even made him pants. Thousands of ways to use them! The possibilities are endless really. As many ideas as you can come up with. Be creative! DIY Denim

Denim is the number one thing to have plenty of in your closet. Have it in every style, wash, and clothing. You can get skirts, dresses, and shirts in denim. Jeans are the most important to have and can be worn with anything.

When you get a new pair of jeans or something that is denim it might be stiff. You can easily soften them up. Take them and wash them with fabric softener added and then dry them with a towel and a clean pair of tennis shoes. Repeat as often as you need to. Make sure to add fabric softener to each wash. That is why I like vintage denim and getting my jeans from thrift stores. They are already soft and worn. The vintage look and feel is the best.

A great way to give your denim a new look is to give it a bit of damage!  Use a utility knife and slice them in places , as many as you want  , down the pant legs. Wash them to make the slices fray a bit and then use thread and needle to sew the slices up. Giving your jeans a cool look. Use different colors of thread. Black thread will look great, but try red, or hot pink. Try any color.

Splatter on some bleach with a paintbrush. Spray it around randomly and lightly at first. You can always add more Better to start splattering less than too much. This will give your denim a very unique look.

You can also use bleach to fade the whole item. Wash the item in the washing machine with about a teaspoon full of bleach. Then dry. Repeat if they need to be more faded for your liking.

Denim is something that everyone should have. You can do things yourself to make them more unique and more YOU!

Sew My Own Kimono Jacket!

I have had this sewing pattern ( on top of this box) for a couple of weeks now and none of the fabric I have here at home would work. I went to the thrift store just looking around and in with the blankets I found this 3 yard (measured when I got home! Exact 3 yards!) that as soon as I saw it knew would be perfect for this kimono top. YAY! The best thing about it was they only charged me $1.00 for it!
